Your wooden box should be as striking and as beautiful as the objects it holds. After searching around the world, testing innumerable woods, and consulting with dozens of gallery owners and thousands of customers, we have honed our selection to the following three woods for our selection of wooden boxes.

is a rare, naturally occurring aberration of Hard Maple. Its swirling, eye-like pattern embellishes and adds visual excitement to your wooden box. We choose only the most highly figured blond boards from a sawyer in Michigan's Upper Peninsula for our wooden boxes. It does not photograph as well as darker woods, but, in person, this wood has a simple elegance that adds exceptional beauty to your wooden box.

is a rare, naturally occurring variation of Black Cherry. The wood we use for our wooden boxes comes from the world’s finest growth region, North Central Pennsylvania. The sawyer chooses from hundreds of logs to find the deep colors and exotic figure that we require for your wooden box to be truly exceptional. After each wooden box is constructed, we use two separate finishes to develop depth of color, satin feel and rock-hard durability. Avoid keeping objects from sitting on top of your wooden box and it will become darker and richer, developing the true patina for which cherry is acclaimed. Like Birdseye Maple, the depth of figure in each wooden box can best be appreciated in person. The beauty of your cherry wooden box will continue to increase for many years.

is a dense Rosewood from Central America. Colors and grain patterns vary tremendously from board to board and even on the reverse face of the same board. Colors in each wooden box range from orange to deep purple with almost black grain lines. Grain pattern varies from parallel lines to flame patterns, eye-like patterns and full curls. The finished pieces mature into a dark rich red-brown to dark purple that really makes your wooden box stand out. We obtain all of our Cocobolo from the region in Mexico that produces the most bold colors and grain patterns for wooden boxes. Please note that the colors of Cocobolo wooden boxes and chests will grow darker with age.
Our velvet is specifically made for lining jewelry boxes by America's foremost velvet manufacturer, Wimpfheimer & Bro. A 100% Rayon material, it is certified tarnish-resistant. For wooden box and drawer bottoms, we use Baltic Birch, the highest quality of plywood available. (Solid wood bottoms add considerably to our costs without any improvement to the function or appearance of the wooden boxes, but using a lesser quality does not meet our quality standards.) For all of our wooden boxes, we use small, brass-plated slot hinges. They perform well and keep one's eye focused on the beauty of design of the wood boxes
